Recovering Your Stolen Items: What You Need to Know

Recovering Your Stolen Items: What You Need to Know

At Pawn Pro, we frequently receive calls from individuals looking for their stolen items. There's a common perception that pawn shops are likely places for stolen goods to end up. However, with the increasing popularity of online marketplaces like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and eBay, this isn't as true as it once was. These platforms allow people to sell items anonymously or under fake names, making them a prime spot for moving stolen goods.

Pawn shops, on the other hand, have become a trusted venue for those who prefer not to deal with the hassle of selling items on their own or those looking to upgrade their belongings. Here at Pawn Pro, we follow strict protocols to ensure we do not deal in stolen items.

Our Commitment to Preventing Stolen Goods

Every night, we, along with all other secondhand shops in the state, upload our purchases to a database accessible by law enforcement. This allows the police to search for and find stolen items efficiently. This process highlights the importance of reporting stolen items to the police immediately.

Steps to Take if Your Item is Stolen

 1. File a Police Report

Your first and most crucial step should be to file a police report. This action ensures that the stolen item is entered into the database that police departments use to track and recover stolen goods.

 2. Monitor Online Marketplaces

Keep an eye on local listings on platforms such as Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and eBay. These are common places where stolen items may be sold.

 3. Provide Us with Information

We are dedicated to helping you recover your items. Text us pictures or any details about your stolen items to our hotline at 315-401-6869. We will keep an eye out for these items and notify the police if they come into our shop.

Why Calling Pawn Shops Directly Might Not Be Effective

While it might seem logical to call pawn shops directly, this approach is less effective than filing a police report and monitoring online marketplaces. By following the steps outlined above, you increase the likelihood of recovering your stolen items.

How We Can Help

We want to assist you in any way we can. By providing us with information about your stolen items, you help us to be vigilant and assist law enforcement more effectively. Remember, our aim is to support our community and ensure that stolen goods do not pass through our doors.

For any concerns or additional information, feel free to reach out to us. Your cooperation and understanding are greatly appreciated as we work together to combat theft and recover stolen property.

I believe a new roommate I just let move in about 9 days ago has been stealing my things while I am away. My Xbox controllers,Xbox games,my prior Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra phone, class-C to C charger cables and bricks are the things I have noticed so far and searched all over my 2 bedroom apartment minus their room so I am sure things are missing…the new roommate had a friend overnight the first day or so to help her friend move in & clean apartment by mainly just bagging & boxing all loose random stuff ,vacuuming, & taking all trash to nearby dumpster. Which Roommate & I agreed upon as their way of paying me towards their first month move in/rent owed…So they cleared out everything and did some vacuuming and bagging but nothing taken to trash, She broke my window screen to gain entry when she got locked out one day accidentally,I have gave her cigs,Food, furniture, & etc & she acts shady which worries me….Especially now because I realize all the things that are missing ever since she moved in….what do I do? How do I see if she sold or pawned any of my things?
